Catherine Shuman was born in 1749 in Germany. Her parents came from Germany and lived near Philadelphia, Pa., where she met and married John Cunningham. They were married June 5, 1769 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
They moved to the Virginia Colony, where they had a son James, born May 5,1770 in Culpeper, VA. They had at least four other children; John Cunningham (1780 - 1866), Elizabeth Cunningham Stewart (1785 - 1852), Joshua Cunningham (1792 - 1887) and Robert Cunningham. They later moved to what is now Marion County, W. Va.
Catherine died on April 21, 1821 in Marion County West Virginia, USA. Burial: Cunningham Cemetery Baxter Marion County West Virginia, USA.
