I have had a difficult time tracking Ralphine's life. I have added a lot of notes and thoughts to this profile to let anyone interested know where I am in her research. Please feel free to make any changes if you have sources that prove me wrong.
Grover was never seen in the census records and I can't find a record for him. I found his name on several other trees on ancestry.com. Those trees had no sources for him. I did find a newspaper article about the death of a son of Sam B. Kelly. There was no name given, this could be Grover Cleveland.
There were also at least 3 older children born in (Joseph Edward)1877, (Rogene Thomas)1880, and (Maida)1881. Several years before the younger three and before the wedding date of 1886. I believe these children were from an earlier marriage. I can't track Samuel to before 1900, to prove this.
Possible husband Joseph Altman
The 1900 census says she was married in 1877, this conflicts with the date on her marriage certificate to Samuel, so I believe she was married before.
I searched the 1880 census in Hillsborough, Florida looking for Ralphine. I did find a Ralphine married to a Joseph Altman with two children named Edward and John.
I searched the marriage records and found a marriage between a Joseph Altman and a Euphena V. Shuman. (Euphena on the marriage record and Ralphine in the census, perhaps one was a typo) The marriage took place in 1877, which fits.
I can't track the two Altman children, They seem to disappear. One thought, could they be the older Kelly children, taking their stepfather's name? This is pure speculation, and not based in fact. Just trying to follow all paths.
*Possible Children
Edward Altman b. 1878
John Altman b. 1880
The 1900 census states that she had 6 children, 5 living. There is still a missing child. Possibly another Altman child.
