Francis William "Frank" Sides was born on 15 December 1913 in Mackay, Queensland, Australia, the son of Florence Ellen Sides and Jack Sides.[1]

He was a cricketer.[1]

He married Dorothy Sarovich in October 1942 at St Barnabas's Church, Balwyn, Victoria.[1][2] The couple had announced their engagement in December 1941.[3]

Frank died on 25 August 1943, killed in action fighting as a commando in the Salamaua area.[1][4][5]

Francis William Sides served in World War 2 with the Australian Army, Service Number: QX15400, attaining the rank of Lance Sergeant. His Next of kin was SIDES, FLORENCE. He enlisted on 26 March 1941 at Cairns, Queensland. His posting when he died was: 2/3 Independent Company. [6] [7]

His remains were interred at Lae War Cemetery and Memorial, Lae, Papua New Guinea.[5]
