Joseph John Siepmann was born in Germany in about 1872, a child of William Siepmann and Catherine Lang.
He emigrated to the United States. In 1902, at his marriage to Catharine Johansen, Joseph J. Siepmann was recorded as age 30, living in Tipton, Cedar County, Iowa, and working as a butcher. Catharine (also called Katharine and Katie on the marriage record) was recorded as age 22, a native of Germany, and a daughter of Fritz Johansen and Annie Loferenz. She also was a resident of Tipton, where the couple was married on 4 June 1902. It was the first marriage for both. The marriage officiant was recorded as Rev. Thos. F. Galligan; witnesses were Edw. Olterall and Emma Johansen.
