Joseph was born about 1723 in Edgmont Township, Chester County (now part of Delaware County), Pennsylvania. He was the oldest son of James Sill and Ann Baker.
Joseph married Martha Elliot on 24 November 1744 at Christ Church (now Philadelphia Monthly Meeting) in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.[1] They were most likely the parents of james Sill, who moved to Shelby County, Kentucky, in 1790.
Joseph was named in the last will and testament of his father James Sill Sr of Edgmont Township, Chester County (now part of Delaware County), Pennsylvania, dated 3 July 1772, proved 15 April 1774. Joseph was named as the first son and received his inheritance a year after his father's death.[2]
Joseph died on 11 August 1790 in Edgmont Township, Delware County, Pennsylvania.
James Sill, born about 1747 in Edgmont Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, and died about 1808 in Shelby County, Kentucky, was not the son of James Sill Jr as some researchers suggest. James Sill Jr was the youngest son of James Sill Sr and Ann Baker (born about 1743-1745). His sons Aaron (b. 1776) and James (b. 1778) inherited the estate in Edgmont Township in 1798 and lived in Edgmont Township their entire lives.
