ExSacramentan loves Life As Fashion Commentator Just plain "fabulous" is the word which best describes the clothes and exciting life Mrs. Alice Silva Driver has been surrounded by for six years while working as fashion commentator for Marusia, noted California couturiere. Hurried trips to fashion showings in New York, Chicago and Dallas, and design consultations with famous personalities such as Loretta Young, Irene Dunne, Paulette Goddard, Rosemary Clooney and Deborah Kerr have become daily routine for this slender, tall, gray haired and blue eyed former Sacramento resident, "I guess my early love for clothes is what led me to work in the fashion field," said Mrs. Driver in her warm, arresting voice. "I've loved nice clothes since I was very young and I believe one must feel a love and enthusiasm for them in order to enjoy working with them 24 hours a day." Visiting Parents Mrs. Driver is spending the Christmas holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Silva of Sacramento, and her eight brothers and two sisters, all of whom live with their families in Sacramento. "Just working with such a fascinating and sophisticated designer as Marusia is excitement in itself," . . . Started With Adrian </br> "My work in the fashion field began shortly after the death of my husband, the late Earl Driver of Sacramento, when I decided to move to Beverly Hills. My interest in fashions led me to an interview with the noted designer Adrian, . . ."After he closed his salon I received a hasty call from Marusia asking me to come and work for her and I have been with her for six years. "My own tastes in colors for my clothes are limited strictly to black and navy in sleek wools and slim crepes. I adhere to these colors because they do not distract from the brilliant colors of Marusia's fashions as I commentate." Mrs. Driver feels that to be stylishly dressed a woman must be well dressed from head to toe. "This does not necessarily mean expensively dressed, she said. "With a moderate priced basic dress accent can be achieved with a different sweater and jewelry and still produce an expensive and stylish appearance. But by all means dress for the type of environment you feel most at home in. If you love the out- of doors, make your clothes casual and simple, but if you are a devotee of the cocktail set, then dress like the smart sophisticate." . . . This sounds like a good deal of excitement. But Mrs. Driver is quick to admit her most exciting and rewarding day in a long time was yesterday. All the members of her family, totaling 45, gathered for a reunion. [1]
