Biography

James was born in the parish of Dunnottar, near Stonehaven, Kincardineshire son to James Silver, a shoemaker. He was baptised on 4 January 1742 at Dunnottar. [1]


James grew up there and when aged 23 as James Selvie, he married Mary Walker, a girl living in the neighbouring parish of Kinnefff & Catterline in October 1765 after their banns were called on the 14th. [2]

James and Mary set up home in the parish of Dun , near Montrose.

There James and Mary had eight children [3]

James lived the remainder of his life in Dun where he used the name Selby and also Selbie and Silvie. James was probably was a tailor there.

He died about 1800.
