He married Sallie Ann Harwell in 1875, in North Carolina, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter.

He lived in Halifax, North Carolina, United States for about 10 years and Brinkleyville Township, Halifax, North Carolina, United States in 1900.

He died on 25 December 1931, in Brinkleyville, Halifax, North Carolina, United States, at the age of 75.
