John was born in 1866. He is the son of John Simister and Elizabeth Brierly. [1]
John Henry was born in Coalville, Utah where his polygamist father John William migrated from England. John Henry was prompted to leave home and the Mormon religion at the early age of 14. He was disturbed that his family gave up their only milking cow for a tithing contribution to the church.
John Henry settled in Ogden and started working for the Union Pacific Railroad Company and made that job his life-time career. He was later promoted to a railroad conductor. His co-worker described him as a serious person and a bit on the gruff side.
John's steady employment with the railroad made him a good provider for his family of six. They lived on Van Buren Ave in Ogden, Utah for many years. The home is still standing. They later settled in Salt Lake City. John enjoyed taking his family to Yellowstone park during the Summer to enjoy his favorite sport of fishing. He was known to be an excellent fisherman. John died on the job while traveling on the train near Mona, Utah.
