My Simmonds ancestors go back to Stourmouth Kent England and my great grandfather, Henry Simmonds, (born 1848 All Saints Stourmouth) was one of four siblings (Sarah A - 1845 Elmstone; George A - 1847 Elmstone; Mary 1852 All Saints Stourmouth) and he migrated out to Australia in 13 September1871on the Abbey Holme when he was 23 years old. He settled in Cairns and Nelson (which is now named Gordonvale). He ran a cattle and butcher business in Lake Street of Cairns. Henry was the first Director of the Mulgrave Sugar Mill in 1895 of Gordonvale and his wife, Christina Annie MYLCHREEST was a licensee of the Simmonds Hotel until it got burnt down. Henry's father, George Culmer Simmonds was a farmer in Stourmouth and married Mary Ann CULMER in the year 1844 and she was born 1814 Preston. Would be great to fill in the family missing branches of my SIMMONDS family ancestors!

Hi Maree, I've possibly found your Mary Ann Culmer at familysearch.org; the URL is https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NTGX-VXH . I've not added her to the tree yet, until I get things into shape (ie find some more data about her and her family), but I suspect that she was the daughter of George Culmer, and will probably build from there.

Many thanks for bringing her to my attention - always nice to find new avenues to research.
