Biography

George W. Simmons was born in Tennessee in September 1831. His father was born in Virginia and his mother was born in either North or South Carolina. He lived in Robertson County, Tennessee when he was married on 26 Oct 1850. His wife was Mary Ann Traughber who was also born in Tennessee in January 1831. Her parents were both born in Virginia. They eventually moved to McCracken County, Kentucky, close to Robertson, which borders Kentucky on its northern line. There was another George (Washington) Simmons living in McCracken, Kentucky, also born in the 1830s, also married to a Mary - perhaps there were cousins. There seemed to be some close connections betweens the Simmons and Traughber families.
