Biography

James Irving Simmons was born on 6 Jul 1866[1] in Monroe County, Alabama, the son of Joe Simmons and Mollie A. Wilkerson, both born in Monroe County.[2]

James I. Simmons and Ida were married about 1896.[3] Based on census and other records, they had at least the following children:

  • Lessie W Simmons, b. 28 July 1897; m. Clayborn Elmore; d. 10 April 1926[4]
  • J D Simmons, b. ca. 1899
  • Pearline "Lena" (Simmons) Thompson, b. 18 Jun 1900; m. John Walter Thompson; d. 4 Jul 1986[5]
  • Aubrey Ray Simmons, b. 25 Sep 1902; m. Belma Goodwin; d. 12 Jul 1964[6]
  • Floyce (Simmons), b. 28 Jun 1912; m. -- Wallace; d. 7 Mar 1971[7]
  • Joe Clyde Simmons, b. 14 Apr 1916; d. 5 Mar 1991[8]

In 1910, James I. and Ida Simmons lived on a place they rented in Leon, Crenshaw, Alabama, with 4 children. James was a farmer[3]

In 1920, James E. Simmons, a farmer, lived Dozier, Crenshaw, Alabama, with his wife Ida and 4 children.[9]

The gravestone for James I. Simmons shows that he died on 17 July 1926.[1] His death record shows that he died on 16 Jul 1929, a day later, at Crozier, Covington, Alabama, however Dozier is in Crenshaw County. At the time of his death, he was married to Ida Simmons.
