Biography

Willis was born in 1869. He is the son of Richard Simmons and Jane Brock. Willis Richard Simmons, known as "Little Willis" , son of Willis R. and Martha-Jane Brock Simmons, was born December; I869 and died May 12, 1916, according to the marker on his grave, and according to family records. He married Jane Smith, who was born October 26, 1871 and died November 3, 1937. They are buried in the old family cemetery on the old home place, where they lived in the Silver Creek Community, Pike County, Mississippi. "Little Willis " was an active Mason. He was a member of the Silver Springs Lodge, No. 410. He was also active in politics . Willis and Jane had nine children:

i. William Edwin Simmons, b. July 05, 1892, d. January 02, 1927. William Edwin Simmons vras born July 5, 1892 and died January 2, 1927. Edwin graduated from Mississippi State College and taught school for some years. He was a member of' the Silver Springs Lodge, No, 410. He married Lucile Varnado, daughter of Loraine Varnado. He was kille d when his car stalled on the railroad crossing near Baxterville, Mississippi. His two boys were with him in the car. One of these, the baby, was also kille d in this accident. Edwin is buried at Silver Creek cemetery in Pike County, Mississippi. Lucile later married Yancy Simmons, son of Dr. Theodore Simmons, Yancy and Lucile had no children. He has died and Lucile lives in Columbia, Mississippi, Lucile and William Edwin had two children:

(a) Dr. William Edwin Simmons, a dentist in Columbia, Mississippi, He married Elizabeth Beacham and they have four children—Ellen Frances, Judy Rae, William Edwin, II I and Elizabeth Lucile,
(b) Earl Ray Simmons born October 16, 1925 and died January 2, 1927. He was kille d in the same accident with his father,

ii.Valentine Simmons, Jr., b. March 12, 1894, Pike County, MS, d. May 26, 1896, Pike County, MS.

iii.Lotti J. Simmons, b. May 11, 1896, Pike County, MS, d. December 27, 1966, Pike County, MS.(3) Lottie Simmons, daughter of "Littl e Willis " and Jane married ? Ellis . She lives at the old home place near Silver Creek Church. iv.Fitzhue "Hugh" Simmons, b. April 1897, d. 1970, Pike County, MS. Hugh F. Simmons, son of "Little Willis " and Jane married Myrtis Fitzgerald. They live on the old home place and have no children. Hugh lost an arm in a cotton gin accident.

v.Harry L. Simmons, ?????, b. 1899, d. date unknown.

vi.Wright L. Simmons, b. April 09, 1900, Pike County, Mississippi, d. April 22, 1984, Pike County, MS. Wright Simmons, son of "Little Willis " and'Jane Simmons, married Alberta Woods,

vii.Samuel Pleas Simmons, b. April 05, 1902, Pike County, Mississippi, d. March 13, 1953, Baton Rouge, LA. Samuel Pleas Simmons, son of "Little Willis " and Jane was born April 5, 1902 and died March 15, 1953. He i s buried in the family cemetery. He married Carrie Jones of Summit, Mississippi, They live d i n Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he was when he died.

viii.Lilian Mae Simmons, b. 1904, Pike County, Mississippi, d. date unknown. Mae Simmons married Robert Andrews of McComb, Mississippi. They lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

ix.Willis R. Simmons III, b. March 03, 1906, Pike County, Mississippi, d. July 15, 1985, Pike County, Mississippi. Willis R. Simmons, son of "Little Willis " and Jane was known to his close friends and relatives as "Wrong" Simmons. He married Aline Stogner. Willis served as Justice of the Peace in the Firs t District of Pike County, Mississippi for several terms. Willis and Aline have three girls :

(a) Myrtle Jane
(b) Patricia
(c) Willis Agnes

x.Benjamin B. Simmons.

xi.Smith Benton Simmons, b. February 15, 1909, Pike County, Mississippi,d. January 16, 1973 Smith Simmons, son of Willi s and Jane, operates a dairy on the old home place. He married Rucie Raborn. They have two children:

(a) Vance, an adopted son.
(b) Raiford, who was born after they adopted Vance.

xii. Delia Simmons, b. 1914, Pike County, Mississipp, born 1857, d. 1953.Delia Simmons, daughter of "Little Willis " and Jane, married William (Bill ) S. Hurt, who was bom in 1908 and died in 1953. Delia lives at Kreole, Mississippi.[1]
