Unable to determine maiden name of Matilda, wife of Jesse.

Executor of Jesse's estate was BARTON KELLY. Could be a relative.

Jesse's will all torn up and dark like it was burned.

Don't rely on ancestry trees. Most mix the South Carolina Jesse with a Massachusetts Jesse who died 1899 commented Jun 22 by Eddie King G2G6 Pilot

Donnie,

Perhaps this may help explain the condition of Jesse Simmons Will:

“...The communion table and pulpit used by Rev. John in the Oolenoy church can still be seen. Baptisms were performed in Oolenoy River. Unfortunately, early records of Oolenoy Baptist Church were destroyed in a fire at the home of Mr. Jesse Simmons during his tenure as church clerk (1856-1867), so much detail of that time is lost. Gwen Skelton states that Rev. John also founded the Holly Springs Baptist Church not far from Pumpkintown, and John's gravestone states that he founded the Cross Roads Baptist Church...”

My wife is Martha (Mullinax) Vandergriff, whose maternal grandfather was Jesse T. Simmons, one of Calvin G. Simmons' brothers. Martha was born in Greenville,

SC; but grew up in Pelzer, SC. We have found no records (other than yours) pertaining to John F. Simmons, alleged to have married Matilda S. Watson. We are persuaded Matilda's father was really Warren Simmons, not Erwin Watson, although she is called Matilda S. Watson on the 1880, Pickens Co., SC Census and her Death Certificate erroneously shows her father as Erwin Watson. Her mother is Elizabeth Hood, who had previously married Warren Simmons.
