From The Yakima Herald-Republic - (Apr/23/2006)

"Kenneth K. Simon Sr.

UNION GAP - Kenneth K. Simon Sr., passed away from this life on April 21, 2006 in Union Gap, WA. He was born on November 13, 1911 in Seattle WA, and raised in Selah, WA.

He married Mickey Simon in 1925 and they had two children, Hez & Joe. Together they lived in Raymond, WA and Yakima in the early years of their marriage. They moved to Orofino, ID after Ken served in Word War II. There, Ken and Mickey purchased The Lumbermans Hotel in 1946 and ran it until shortly after Mickey's death in 1979.

In 1980, Ken married Millie Bloom. They sold The Lumbermans Hotel and moved to Union Gap where he lived until his passing.

While in Orofino, Ken's many customers became life long friends. Over the years his memories of his life in Orofino and the happenings at The Lumbermans were his fondest.

Ken was an avid fisherman and hunter. He continued fishing up until the last few years. If he wasn't home or spending time with Millie, he was "on the water" fishing. He always said that it was a shame that so many people never got to see the sun rising over the water as he made his first catch of the day.

Ken was preceded in death by his first wife, Mickey, his son, Hez, and his stepdaughter, Jackie.

He is survived by his loving wife Millie of Union Gap, his son, Joe and wife Betty, grandchildren, Laurie, Joanne, Mike, Jeff, stepson, Mike and step-granddaughter, Suzanne. There are 10 surviving great grandchildren.

At his request, no funeral services will be held in Yakima. A memorial graveside will be held in Orofino, Idaho, so he can be laid to rest next to his first wife, Mickey.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers; remembrances be sent to the American Heart Association at 710 2nd Avenue Suite 900, Seattle, WA, 98104.

Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors, Yakima, WA were asked to care for the arrangements."
