Johannes Simon was born on September 24th, 1809 in Erden, Landkreis Bernkastel-Wittlich, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. [1] He was the son of Heinrich Simon and Maria Justen. [2]
Around 1845 he married Kathrina Roth, likely in Erden.
They had two children born in Germany.

Heinricus, born in Erden in February of 1850
Then in June of 1850, fourteen of the extended Simon family emigrated to the United States. Among the 295 passengers aboard the ship Edwina[3], sailing from Antwerp & arriving in New York on June 3rd, 1850, was:
Johannes and his wife Catherina, with their two infants Susanna and Heinricus;
his father Heinrich Simon, age 72;
his brothers Mathias, Heinrichs, Martin, Johann "Stephan", Joseph, Peter and Philipp;
& sisters Maria Susana and Anna.[4]
The family settled in Fulda, Indiana, where Johannes & Kathrina had 5 more children.

Johannes Simon passed away in 1877 and is buried at the Saint Boniface Cemetery in Fulda. [5]
