Biography

Samuel Simon was the second son of George Simon and Elizabeth Hewitt was born on October 18, 1812, near Canton, in Salem Township, Columbiana, Ohio, USA. He married Margaret Peppel, the daughter of Simon Peppel and Nancy Dixon, on 23 Feb 1837, in Columbiana, Ohio, USA. Together they had five children: Solomon, Albert, George, Arvilla, and Joshua. In politics like his father, Samuel was a Whig and therefore a supporter of the developing Republican principles. He lived in Columbiana County, Ohio from his birth in 1812, until he moved to Perry Township, Allen County, Indiana sometime after his marriage to Margaret in 1837, and before his son Albert’s birth in LaOtto, Indiana, in 1839. He died on May 9, 1868, at (a fairly young) age 55 and was buried at the Old Huntertown Cemetery in Huntertown, Allen County, Indiana, USA.
