John Clay Simons, 80, 211 East First Street, retired farmer of the Pawnee community, died this morning at 7:30 at the Burke St. Mercy hospital where he was taken yesterday evening after being overcome by the heat.

John Clay Simons, son of Jack (John) and Mary Hoskins Simons, was born April 29, 1874, in Crawford County, near Pawnee. He was reared in that community and was married on July 3, 1895, at Greenfield, Mo. to Lydia Elora Duncan. Mrs. Simons preceded him in death on April 16, 1930. Mr. Simons had been a resident of this county fro the past 30 years.

Surviving are five children: Arvy Ray Simons, Ft. Scott; Alva Simons and Mrs. D.D. (Rosalie) Moore, Sanda Paula, Calif.; Mrs. Bertha Parmenter, Wasco, Calif.; and Archie Simons, Girard. Also surviving is one brother, Pete (Samuel C.) Simons, Visalia, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. One sister and one brother are deceased.
