Biography

Christian was born on 27 September 1861, in the Vrå parish in Børglum, in the municipality of Hjørring, Denmark. ^[1] At the age of 8 he is listed in the 1870 census as living with his parents and two older siblings. ^[2] He was confirmed in the Vrå Lutheran Church at the age of 14. ^[3]

At age 29, he was married to Louise Christine Jensen-5391 on 20 June 1890, in the town of Serritslev, Denmark. ^[4] On 7 September 1891, their daughter Emilie Marie Simonsen-363 was born in the town of Serritslev, Denmark. ^[5]

He is listed in the 1901 census of Hjorring as being 40 years old and living with his wife and seven children (including an unnamed infant girl) in the parish of Vrå. He is listed as the man of the house and the landlord. The family is recorded as being Lutheran. ^[6] In the 1906 Denmark census, Christian is listed with his wife and 10 Children. ^[7] The Simonsen family was a household of 10 (both parents and 8 kids) in the 1911 census. ^[8] By the 1916 census, only six of the children were at home. ^[9]
