Biography

Easter/Esther was born about 1758, the daughter of Robert Simanton and Mary McDowell

Easter married Thomas Ross (1762-1835). They had the following children (some may be mis-attributed):

  1. James (1774-1856)
  2. John (1779-1841) m Nancy Galloway (1785-1810)
  3. Robert (1781-1841)
  4. Mary (1783-1855 ) m Johann Adam Stiehl (1780-1849); 7 children
  5. Samuel (1785-1872 )[1] m Abigail Hildyard; 15 children.
  6. Jane (1788- ) m William Galloway (1783-1839); 7 children
  7. David (1790-1860) m Margaret Jane Galloway (1791-1874)
  8. Elizabeth (1792-1866) m John Galloway (~1783-1856)
  9. James (1794- )
  10. Thomas (1798-1856)

Sons Samuel and David migrated to Oakland County Michigan, probably connected to their military pensions (War of 1812).

Easter died in 1839.

Burial (on or shortly after 23 June 1839 (death date)) of Lower Mount Bethel Township, Northampton, Pennsylvania

Research Notes

1 The 1790 census for Pennsylvania families lists two Thomas Ross households. One had 2 males 16 and over, no males under 16, and 3 females. The other had 1 male 16 and over, 4 males under 16, and 4 females. The former may be Thomas Ross (1756-1798) and his wife, Easter (Ester). One male over 16 may be David, who was unmarried. If he was the oldest and was at least 16 in 1790, and if Easter was at least 16 when he was born, then she was born before 1759. The females might have been wife Easter and daughters Elizabeth and Mary. Other sons were James, Thomas, and Zachariah, and households for all three names are also found in the census.

Simonton-36 and Simanton-3 appear to represent the same person because: Although the birth dates do not match, I think these are the same person based on other info, such as parents and siblings. I added a bunch of information about Esther in the profile I created (Simanton-3), but the parents and siblings need to be preserved from Simonton-36. I also updated birth and death dates and locations for most of Esther's siblings.
