Priscilla Ellaby Simpson was born in North Carolina in 1826. She was the daughter of Nathan and Patience Simpson.[1] She first married to John Mileham in 1846 with the consent of her mother and father. John was the son of Ebenezer Mileham by his wife Ann Daugherty.
Ellaby was widowed when John Mileham died in September of 1849. She requested his brother James administer her deceased husband's estate during the October County Court held for Pendleton County. She again married to John's cousin, Jasper Dougherty, in 1852.
Jasper and Ellaby were residing in Pendleton County during the 1860 census with there two children, Janette and John J. Dougherty. A 12 year old boy named Ernest Dougherty was also listed in their home as an apprentice.
