Son William C. Simpson (65) and his wife (61), born Willie Belle Watts, were living in Radford, Virginia in 1940 with their 17-year-old son Billie B. Simpson.
Milton Coleman Simpson, son of Benjamin Franklin Simpson (1810-1862) and Mildred Dean Covington Simpson (1818-1901), was one of their 14 children:
Milton Coleman Simpson's father was Benjamin Franklin Simpson born Nov 1810, and murdered June 1862 by abolitionists for refusing to sell them horses.
Milton Coleman Simpson's mother was Mildred Dean Covington Simpson, born May 1818, died Dec 1901. They had 14 children. After Benjamin's murder, she married Samuel Gilmore.
Note: I cannot find any evidence in census records (or marriage records) at FamilySearch of a Benjamin Franklin Simpson m Mildred (Dean or Covington), and no evidence that Mildred, widow of Simpson, married Samuel Gilmore. I found a possible candidate, but he was married to Catherine Hornbarger in 1822 and still married to her in the 1870 census.
