Research Notes

Needs support:

Milton Coleman Simpson, son of Benjamin Franklin Simpson (1810-1862) and Mildred Dean Covington Simpson (1818-1901), was one of their 14 children:[3]
  • Milton Coleman Simpson's father was Benjamin Franklin Simpson born Nov 1810, and murdered June 1862 by abolitionists for refusing to sell them horses.
  • Milton Coleman Simpson's mother was Mildred Dean Covington Simpson, born May 1818, died Dec 1901. They had 14 children. After Benjamin's murder, she married Samuel Gilmore.

Note: I cannot find any evidence in census records (or marriage records) at FamilySearch of a Benjamin Franklin Simpson m Mildred (Dean or Covington), and no evidence that Mildred, widow of Simpson, married Samuel Gilmore. I found a possible candidate, but he was married to Catherine Hornbarger in 1822[4] and still married to her in the 1870 census.[5]
