Biography

When Frank Simpson was born on April 14, 1856, in Jefferson Township Fayette County, Pennsylvania, his father, William Simpson, was 21 and his mother, Hannah Goe, was 18. He married Mary Aldridge in 1886. They had eight children in 17 years. He died on June 7, 1930, in his hometown, at the age of 74, and was buried in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

In the 1860 Census he is living with his parents William and Hannah, younger sister Harriet and his grandfather Thomas Simpson 70 years old. The family is listed as mulatto on this census.

In the 1880 Census he is living with his parents and his siblings Amanda Simpson 14, Hiram A. Simpson 12, James W. Simpson 10, Lottie L. Simpson 8 ,Charles E. Simpson 4 ,Hugh Simpson 1. The family is listed as mulatto on this census.

In the 1900 Census he is now married to Mary Aldridge, they are living in Jefferson Township of Fayette County PA. With them are their children Ruth 13, Harvey 11, Maggie 9, Eva 5 and Isabel 1. They are listed as black on this census.

In the 1910 Census he and Mary are still in Jefferson living with their children Harvey 21, Margaret 18, Eva 15, daughter 11, Edna 8 and Lilian 6. The family is listed as mulatto on this census.

In the 1920 Census he and Mary are living in Redstone, Fayette County PA on Braznell St house number 66. Children in the house are Gertrud L 15, Edna 17 and Harvey 31. In this census the family is listed as white.

In the 1930 Census he and Mary are back in Jefferson, children in the house are their daughter Gertrud 26 who is a widow and their granddaughter Elnora 5. In this census the family is listed as negro.

Frank Simpson died on June 7, 1930, in Jefferson, when he was 74 years old. He is buried in Mount Vernon Methodist Cemetery in Fayette County. A couple of years ago a bunch of his ancestors got together and we did a cleanup on the cemetery. It was a great time we had a cookout and just visited with all of our ancestors who are buried there. We hope to do it again someday soon. [1]
