Sarah Ann Simpson was born on 7 October 1848, in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. She is recorded in the 1851 and 1861 Census living with her parents, William and Martha Simpson.
Sarah Ann Simpson married James Benton on 22 July 1866 at St Peter's Church, Leeds, Yorkshire, England. They had 7 children: Kate Benton, William Simpson Benton, Mark Benton, Mary Louise Benton, Earnest Benton, Walter Charles Benton and George Benton.
Sarah died 4 August 1898 in Leeds and she was buried t Burmantofts Cemetery (formerly Beckett St Cemetery) "Wife of James"
