Biography

William "Bill" Dale Sims was born on 30 JUN 1941 in Moweaqua, Shelby, Illinois. As of today, 17 OCT 2017, Bill and his wife have lived the last 40 some years in Sioux Falls, Minnehaha, South Dakota.

He was, and still is, married to Marguerite Marie Kulhavy on 17 AUG 1963 in Albuquerque, Bernalillo, New Mexico. They moved a short time later to Dallas, Texas.

They have three (3) children: Brenda Marie Sims born in 1964 in Dallas, Texas, Gregory John Sims born in 1967 in Irving, Texas, and Jeffery Dale Sims born in 1972 in Austin, Texas.

So far, they have five (5) grandchildren and two (2) great grandchildren. All the family members live in Sioux Falls at this time, except daughter, Brenda, who lives near Lilliwaup, Washington.

Bill began working on family history in 2013. At that time he inherited the several years of the family work that is mother had completed. So he had a great head-start.

He is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution with three (3) ancestors ... William Humphrey, John VerTrees and Augustine Sims. These follow the bloodline of three (3) of his four (4) grandparents. He would like to find one to complete one for each grandparent. He has identified about 11 more ancestors who he believes fought in the war and maybe some day he will apply for approval by the SAR for the additional Patriots.

Bill and his daughter, Brenda, are members of The Mayflower Society as an ancestor of Richard Warren.

While in Texas Bill was Director of the Computer center at the University of Dallas. He also taught and guest lectured on computer science and business related courses at UofD, SMU, TCU, Univ of Texas and St. Edwards University.

Since he didn't have a PhD, pay was not all that great. So, he left the academic world to join the private sector. At retirement in 1996 he was a senior executive in a large insurance company and on the Board of Directors of several others.

He is new to WikiTree as of this date of 15 OCT 2017. Another member, Alan Sims, told him about the mission and workings of this tool.

However, it is only his 3rd day as a member. He is a firm believer in sharing. Hopefully he can add some information for other and hopefully learn more from others.

Hi Betty, I am still around ... but at 80 years old ... I have had a few health issues ... I am well on my way to getting much better ... I hope to do more family research in the near future ... I just missed the challenge this weekend ... was on Emma's team a few times in the past ... and maybe will be ready for next time.

I really haven't been too active in the 1776 project ... but, I do have 27 ancestors I have identified as Revolutionary War Vets ... have 3 confirmed by the SAR, may submit more as time permits ... would like to have at least one for each of my grandparents ... so far I have 3 of them ... missing the Rammel branch, but have some that will likely get approved as I continue to gather proof of all generations.

I also am a member of the Mayflower Society with Richard Warren as my ancestor.

Best Regards, Betty

Emma... it is hard to believe at 80 years old I seem to be so darn busy ... guess it is because I am so much slower to get things done? .....my schedule is hard to predict this early ... but I have enjoyed participating is this challenge the last few years...I am slowly running out to people to add ... but I will likely participate this year ... I will wait until my schedule is firmer to actually sign up. .. thanks for asking me to join your team again. Bill ...... .

Emma and Pip,

Thanks for your feedback.

I am still amazed at how some people did over 1,000 new profiles ... my keyboard doesn't work that fast ... anyway I ran out of people I can really provide good sources ...

Anyway, it was fun ... and I didn't lost too much sleep ..at at 79 years old what else do I have to do??

Maybe by next year I will find some more ancestors and can contribute again?

Hi, Cousin Bill,

I entered the Mumma profiles when I was (still am!) doing Ogle County profiles, due to having a copy of the History of Ogle County, Illinois, 1878, in my possession. I also have copies of the 1880 Ogle County US Census. The reason that I'm interested in Ogle County is that both the paternal and maternal sides of my family have been in that area since 1852. I was also born and raised there. The relationship finder says that we are 21st cousins twice removed through William Comyn, but not related through the Mummas, as far as I know.

Bill and Jill are 21st cousins twice removed

Bill Sims and Jill (Turkington) Lee are both descendants of William Comyn.

Hi Bill,

Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Participation in a Pre-1700 Project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants.

It looks like 1776 Project would be a good fit based on your profile. Changing your tag to 1776 will help you get updates about activity for that project.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)
