Son of John Sims and Elizabeth Scott Sims.
An early pioneer that settled in the community of Cottonwood was Elishia Sims. Elisha was born December 3, 1819 in Monroe County Kentucky to John and Elizabeth Scott Sims. Elisha must have been partial to the name Elizabeth since his mother, his wife and his daughter-in-law all bore that name.
We don't know the exact year that Elisha Sims came to Texas, but we do know that it was prior to 1870 since his name appears on the rolls of Dallas County, Precinct Four Census for that same year.
We also know that in 1868 there was a meeting of the two-year-old Cottonwood Church of Christ. The meeting was held on or near the Wells Bridge over the Bios D' arc (East Fork of the Trinity River). Elisha Sims attended that meeting. It was Elisha Sims and Thomas Jackson McClain (grandfather of Jack McClain) that were appointed to fill the two open positions of elders which were left vacant by the death of J. L. Wells and R. B. Skaggs.
Almost eight years later the old Cottonwood Church of Christ building was erected on land donated by Elisha Sims. Jossie Wood Spence used to tell about meeting under a brush arbor for sometime before the church was built.http://www.dallaspioneer.org/stories/pioneers.php?ID=108
