"Died - On the 21st inst. in the 55th year of his age, Mr. William Sims of this county. He was a hero of '76 who happily lived long to enjoy the liberty for which he fought; and died firmly persuaded that through the merits for a divine redeemer, he should ascend to enjoy with him an eternity of bliss. The disease of which he died, was in consequence of the hardships he endured in the revolution, since which, it has been an insidious and deadly foe to his breast! but his patriotism, and firmness of mind, did not permit him to think that liberty too dearly bought, for which he paid the exchange of a life of health, for one of a diseased, a painful, and retrenched existence! Such a man, for whom virtue drops a tear! Such, the man, who has now yielded his life as a sacrifice on the alter of liberty! and such have been the repeated sacrifices of our county, since the period of our glorious and ever memorable revolution."[1]
