James was born on July 9, 1802 at Cazenovia, near Constine Bridge, to William Sims and Deborah Weaver. [1]
A biography of him was written in 1894.[2]
He married Sabrah Blodgett of Penfield March 22, 1829.[2] They had eight children:[2]
James was a school teacher, teaching in Onondaga county, Cazenovia, and Nelson, and also a farmer.[2]
After the death of his wife in 1859, he moved to Cazenovia.[1]
A description of his centenniel birthdate was published in The Cazenovia Republican. Many of his relatives and descendants were in attendance.[3]
James died January 4, 1904, at Cazenovia, aged 102. His obituary was published in The Cazenovia Republican. In it are mentioned his immigrant ancestor John Sims, his parents William Sims and Deborah Weaver, and siblings Louisa (William) Cooley, Phoebe (J V H) Clark, and John W Sims.[1]
He is buried at the South Cemetery at Cazenovia. The inscription on his gravestone reads:[4]
