James Sinclair, First of Murkle was the second son of John SInclair, Master of Caithness and his wife Lady Jean hepburn , and grandson of George, fourth Earl of Caithness.[1]
He was granted he one-half of the lands of Barland of Murkill by his brother, George Sinclair, Earl of Caithness in 1587.[2]
James Sinclair married Elizabeth Stewart, daughter of Robert, Earl of Orkney, a natural son of King James V.[1]
