Janet was born in 1835[1].
[2].
She is the daughter of James Sinclair and Agnes Adamson. Janet lived at home with her mother, Agnes, from birth until her mother's death around 1891. In 1861, she had a son, George Duncan, who was 6 months old on the 1861 census[3].
He lived with his mother and grandmother as his age is given as 10 on the 1871 census[4].
His birth registration was done by his grandmother, Agnes Sinclair who made her mark on 4th Oct at Falkland. On 3rd Jan 1867 the Sheriff of Fife found that George was the illegitimate child of Janet Sinclair, Freuchie and Thomas Duncan, weaver, of Freuchie. Entered on Page 26 of the Register of Corrected Entries at Falkland on 21st August 1867 and examined on 25th May 1868. (Thanks to Don Hutton, Cousin, for this research.) Janet and Thomas never married. Thomas is the probable father of George, a weaver by occupation.
