Biography

Sarah Anne Elizabeth was born in the September Quarter of 1851 and registered in Hackney ,Middlesex, However, the actual birth took place in an area within Hackney named Homerton. She was the daughter of David Sinfield and Sarah Goodridge . ^[1]

When Sarah's marriage was located it seems as though she may have known the young man she married for a very long time. Why? because he was born in the exact same area and probably just a few months apart. His name was John WILSHIRE. This couple married in the December quarter of 1868 which was registered at the District of Bethnal Green. ^[2]

In the 1881 census the Wilshire family are living in Brooks Street, Hackney, Middlesex, and have two sons, John aged 12 years and James aged 10 years. The birthplace for all four members of the family is Homerton, Middlesex, England. ^[3]

In the following Census of 1891 there has been a few changes in the family, and the first is their surname now has a double L [WILLSHIRE] Their eldest son John is not at home now and James has married a girl named Alice. To add further to the family James & Alice have two children, a boy, James F. WIllshire aged 3 years and a daughter named Alice aged 1 year. The head of the family now has the added Initials of John E.W. WILLSHIRE, aged 44 years. He is now a Bricklayer, Sarah is a 40 year old Laundress, and their residence is now named The GROVE in the parish of Hackney in the County of London. ^[4]

The next great event in Sarah's life is the loss of her husband John. It looks as if he may have died while away from home. the event is recorded as taking place at Islington which is not quite two miles from their residence, and his death was also registered in Islington. He died in the March quarter of 1896 and shows his age as 53 years. ^[5]

The 1901 Census has Sarah as Head of the family now 50 years old with her occupation shown as a Charwoman. The only people with her are her grandson James F. Wiltshire aged12 years. Surname appears to have made another change from Willshire to Wiltshire here. There is also a boarder from Sarah & John's home town of Homerton staying with them he is 29 years old Frank Taylor.^[6]

Sarah Anne Elizabeth Wiltshire nee Sinfield died in the December Quarter of 1913 at Hackney, Middlesex, England. She was aged 62 years. ^[7]
