Stanley was the son of Joshua Singleton and Ann Gower. He was named in the will of his father dated 28 December 1732, which named the latter's wife Ann and their minor children as, Robert, Joshua, Stanley, and Sarah Singleton.[1]
His father's will bequeathed the land he'd received from his own father in what had been Stafford County, but by 1731 was lying in Prince William County, to be equally divided between Stanley and his brother Robert.
Stanley was left in the care of his mother's cousin Mary Thornton and under the guardianship of Benjamin Rust after his mother's death in 1734.[2]
