Herbert was born in 1894 in Galbraith Township, Algoma, Ontario. He was a farmer's son when he signed up in 1916 to serve with the 119th Overseas Battalion in World War I. He gave his next-of-kin as his mother, Mrs. Abraham (Ellen) Singleton, Dunn's Valley. He served as a private in France and was treated in hospital for gas poisoning, diptheria and tonsillitis. He was demobbed in 1919.[1]
Herbert married Margaret Trawford on 7 Mar 1921 at New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada.[4]
Death
Herbert died 18 May 1965 at Seattle, King, Washington.[5][3]

Herbert is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Seattle, King County, Washington, USA.[3] Marker image.
Research Notes
There are three first person records with Herbert signing his name as Herbert Miron Singleton. One is his BC marriage record the second is his US petition for naturalization. Finally, the picture of him posted on Find A Grave appears to be signed by him as well as Herbert Miron Singleton. The record showing a "y" in his middle name while first person is hand written by a recuiter or government official. Above his signature his middle name is typed as "Myers". Herbert signed his name as Herbert M. Singleton.
Regarding Herbert's place of birth, his first person record sworn statement given on his US petition for naturalization shows his place of birth as Bruce Mines, Ontario. His marriage record indicates it was Dunns Valley, Ontario which is about 30km North. Place of birth has been marked uncertain.
