Biography

Elizabeth (Betty) Sisk was born 1775 in North Carolina, the daughter of Daniel Sisk and Rachel LNU. [1]

After the death of her father, her mother married Gabriel Loving. Elizabeth's stepfather Gabriel Loving was appointed by the Wilkes County, NC court as her guardian on 7-28-1784, along with her 3 minor siblings ; Gabriel, Nellie and Robert. See attached record. [1] [2]

Accompanied her brother Gabriel Sisk when he moved to Habersham County, Georgia.

Elizabeth died in 1844 in Habersham County, Georgia at the age of 69. She is buried in Amy's Creek Cemetery, Habersham County, Georgia, USA. "Court Records reference her as "Betty", a common nickname for Elizabeth. Year of death given as 1844."  : [1]

Reported that Betty married A. P. Sisk, but this requires additional research.  : [1]

Buried at Amy's Creek Cemetery, Habersham County, Georgia : [1]

Research

Need a Source for the maiden name of Ellender/Nelly (wife of John Clark mentioned in his estate papers).....

Elizabeth's brother Gabriel Sisk also married an Elizabeth who was nicknamed Betsey.... she died June 9, 1844, and is reported to also be buried in Amy's Creek Cemetery. It's likely the records for these two women have been confused.

Notes from Rootsweb tree to verify: John Clark Married: 8 Aug 1803 in Pendleton Co., SC This marriage date is from a statement Ellender made, after John died in estate settlement papers. Gilbert Clark also made a statement that he was there when they married. Still no mention of maiden name?

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Betty by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Betty:

See requested merge. Gabriel was the guardian of Daniel Sisk's four children: Elizabeth "Betty" Sisk, Gabriel Sisk, Robin Sisk [aka Robert] and Nelley Sisk as indicated in the referenced guardianship papers https://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Loving-343, which I posted in 2019. Nellie was sometimes referenced as Emily.

Sisk-109 and Sisk-32 appear to represent the same person because: Same person. Elizabeth's stepfather Gabriel Loving was appointed guardian of her and three siblings.

Sisk-687 and Sisk-109 do not represent the same person because: Donald C Wilkey's compiled genealogy showed Daniel Sisk's daughters as Nellie Elizabeth and Emily. The guardianship paper from Wilkes County, North Carolina, and dated 25 Oct 1784, shows daughters Nellie & Elizabeth. I have changed Sisk-109's name from Emily to Elizabeth in accordance with that.

His daughters were Elizabeth "Betty" and Nellie (sometimes referred to as Emily).

The book by Arthur J. Slaton, "The Slaton Family Ab Antiquitas", page 288, provides two entries regarding the children of Daniel Sisk.

The first entry was supplied by Wilmetta Burgess Seattle Washington (1965): "The children are named as Robert, Gabriel, Nellie and Emily Sisk. Many who have researched believe that Timothy and Andrew were also children of Daniel Sisk, but this merely supposition."

From Mrs. John Hall, Liberty, Missouri (1965) copied from DAR papers: Daniel Sisk's children 1. Robert Sisk, 2.Gabriel Sisk, 3. Emily Sisk, 4. Betty Sisk.

However, it appears that Wilmetta did not have access to the Court records, since she named the children incorrectly. Mrs. Hall shows 3 of the names listed in the original court order, but "Emily" is listed instead of "Nellie".

Also, note Don's records don't show specific sources, so refer to the actual court documents. Don was indeed passionate regarding his pursuit in documenting the Wilkey and associated families. At least he tried and he unfortunately was never able to incorporate the 100's of changes, with sources, which I sent him before his death. I did have a few phone conversations with him, regarding the family, prior to his death, and he indeed had some real stories to tell.

Sisk-687 and Sisk-109 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents, same approx. dates of birth and death along with birth locations.

I agree with the confusion! Since I had access to "Sisk Book of Ages" I posted what this source stated..... I did not change the DOB and DOD to agree with Sisk Book of dates 1875-1844. My best guess is this woman DID NOT marry John Clark and have his children. (Couldn't find a source to support this marriage... and they lived in Tennessee) I also think the Find A Grave record might not be this Elizabeth...... perhaps the wife of her brother Gabriel Sisk instead ?.... but a lot more work needs to be done to be certain. This Elizabeth may have never married or the "rumor" she married A.P. Sisk is true!

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Update: Some claim John Clark married Elizabeth Sisk in 1803 in Pendleton S.C., this is where Elizabeth's brother Gabriel was living at the time and it's been said Ellizabeth followed her brother from North Carolina. Also, Gabriel's wife died in 1844 in Habersham Co, GA....and was also buried in Amy's Creek Cemetery.... so the death records for these two Elizabeth's might be confused.

I'm confused....please clarify. Was she married twice? First to John Clark and then to A.P. Sisk? If so who is this A.P. Sisk? The tombstone associated wiith Find A Grave: Memorial #55000768 shows her name as Elizabeth Sisk. If she was only married to a Clark...wouldn't that be listed on the tombstone. Maybe, the referenced memorial is for another Elizabeth. Lots of questions.

Sisk-32 and Sisk-686 appear to represent the same person because: Clear match. Same dates, parents, spouse...

Sisk-426 and Sisk-109 appear to represent the same person because: Data matches. FindAGrave entry for Daniel Sisk shows him as having just four children, one of whom was Emily. Please see http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?pagegr&GRid92560000 .

Sisk-110 and Sisk-32 appear to represent the same person because: Sisk-413, Sisk-110, and Sisk 32 were all listed separately... apparently because of confusion over her correct name. Closer inspection shows "Nellie" to have been a nickname. I will go with "Elizabeth Ellender" as her first and middle names.
Sisk-413 and Sisk-110 appear to represent the same person because: Available data indicate that Nellie Sisk and Elizabeth Sisk are not separate individuals. Please see http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?pagegr&GRid92560000 .
