George W. Sisk was born about 1846 in Arkansas. His father, a blacksmith, died when he was a young boy and his mother remarried a local man when George was seven years old.

On February 1 1865 at Ft. Smith Arkansas, the 18-year-old Private George W. Sisk enlisted in the Union Army in Company I, Arkansas 1st Infantry Regiment. Military records provide this description of George: farmer, ht 5' 7", eyes gray, hair light, complexion fair, born in Pope Co, AR. [1]

November 1, 1866 he married Mary E. Lemmons in Yell or Johnson County Arkansas,

He and his wife passed away before 1880, leaving two young orphaned children to be raised by his mother, Mary (Timmons) Sisk.
