Biography

From biography on his Find-a-Grave memorial page; while his descendants do carry Haplogroup Q in their DNA (a sign of Native origins), the specific tribe and the full-bloodedness of his father is in question, contrary to the Find-a-Grave memorial:

"George "Goldenhawk" Sizemore, was called Goulden in earlier times and later he went by Goldenhawk. He was born some say in North Carolina and some say Virginia, the son of George "All" Sizemore a Cherokee Indian and Agnes Cornett Shepherd. He was the brother of Henry "Hunting Shirt" Sizemore. Between 1810-1812 in Hawkins County, Tennessee he married his first wife Sarah "Sallie" Anderson the daughter of George Anderson. Their children are;

He married second wife, Mary Ann Womack. His daughters Agnes "Aggie" and Catherine Sizemore married brothers Silas and Samuel M. Montgomery, brothers of my [whose?] great-great grandfather, Miles Montgomery. George "Goldenhawk" is reputed to have "fathered 55 children" by his wife 1. Sarah "Sallie" Anderson, his wife 2. Mary Ann Womack, and he is said to have had an affair and lived with Alethia "Ally Jendo" Richardson, they did not marry, and "Annie Elizabeth Hart".

There are no known photos of Goldenhawk, but he was said to be a big man and to have hair the color of gold, where he got his name from. He is buried at the Mouth of Oakley Cemetery near Royalton, in Magoffin County, Kentucky. There was found his headstone and a second stone with the initials G.S. and S.S. It appears that the stone with the initials is actually a footstone for Goldenhawk's grave. The Magoffin County Historical Society with the aid of many of his descendants, has placed a new marker for Goldenhawk in Oakley Cemetery."^[1]

In 1860 he lived in the "Licking Station" district of Magoffin County. He was 77 years old, he lived by himself and had no occupation.^[2] This census reported his birth location as North Carolina.

He passed away in 1864.

While he lived here at the end of his life, there is no evidence that he was born there. The 1860 census reports his birth location as North Carolina.^[2]

George "Goldenhawk" is reputed to have fathered 55 children by Sarah "Sallie" Anderson, Mary Ann Womack, Alethia "Ally Jendo" Richardson.

The Magoffin County Historical Society with the aid of many of his descendants, has placed a new marker for Goldenhawk in Mouth of Oakley Cemetery.

Cherokee Indian

Eastern Cherokee Applications:

The family known to have applied was another George Sizemore known as George Gullie, Goulden, or Gollden. He was also referred to as Golden Hawk Sizemore. He was born in North Carolina in 1783 and lived in Magoffin and Floyd Counties, Kentucky. He married Sallie Anderson in Hawkins County, Tennessee. The 1860, 1870, and 1880 Census lists the children of George Golden and Sallie Sizemore as having been born in Floyd and Magoffin Counties. They appear to have been related to the Leslie County Sizemores. In fact, T. C. Sizemore claims to be a direct descendant of Golden Hawk. ^[3]
