Melinda was born in 1848. She was the daughter of Richard Sizemore and Elizabeth Forester.
Melinda passed away about 1938. [1] On her death certficate it states her father Richard was born in Madison Co AL. In the time period of 1800, his supposed birth year, Madison Co AL was actually called GEORGIA. Alabama was not a state until 1819.
Malinda Elizabeth "Lindy" Sizemore was the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth (Forrester) Sizemore, both born in South Carolina. The couple moved to near Shellmound, Tennessee, and then to northern Dekalb County, Alabama, where they are listed in census in 1860. Richard and Elizabeth Sizemore had twelve children. Malinda was born next to last.
Malinda Sizemore married Peter Cooper (son of William and Susan Burke Cooper) on August 28, 1864, in Dekalb County, Alabama. Peter and Malinda's first babies were infant twin boys, who were stillborn or died at birth. George Allen Cooper was their next-born child, followed by Susannah, Nancy Jane, Andrew Jackson, James Clayton "Jim," Gaines Newton "Newt," Mary, Isaac, Sarah Elizabeth, John Franklin, Richard L., and Lou Della Cooper. By 1900, the couple was living in a cabin in Long Island, Jackson County, Alabama, where they lived for the rest of their lives.
Malinda's husband, Peter Cooper fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War, having a leg shot off in battle. He survived and wore a wooden leg for the rest of his life. Malinda died in 1938 at Bridgeport, Alabama, and is buried at Moore's Chapel, Long Island, Alabama. On this grave, someone has placed a metal sign that says, "Mylinda Cooper."
