Biography

Lewis Solomon Skeleton was born 9 May 1772 in Union, Union, South Carolina (some say Old 96 District, South Carolina), son of Robert Skelton and Elizabeth Bobo (aka, Mary Elizabeth).

Lewis's father Robert was a soldier during the Revolutionary War fighting with the South Carolina Militia in Roebuck's Battalion. His maternal grandfather, Lewis Bobo, was also a soldier during the Revolutionary War serving in the South Carolina Militia under Brandon. {The Revolutionary War came to the Colonies in April 1775 with the exchange of fire between the British and patriots at Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts Colony. While the War raged for over a year in the northern colonies, it did not come to the Southern Colonies until July of 1776 when the British began the siege of Charleston South Carolina. They also made an attempt at invasion in North Carolina but were defeated at Moore's Bridge in 1776.}

After the war ended Solomon moved with his parents to the newly formed Pendleton District in South Carolina. He was living there in 1790; in abt 1792 he married there to Mary Ann Dozier. Solomon. along with his parents and siblings. moved to Elbert County, Georgia. (Elbert County was created in 1790 from Wilkes County in Georgia.) Both Solomon and his brother, Robert Skelton Jr. were eligible to draw in the 1806 Georgia Land Lottery. [1] After Solomon's mother died about 1807 in Elbert County, Georgia, He relocated to Madison County, Alabama, .along with his father and many of his siblings. Solomon's brother, Sampson, died there in 1826. He was still living in Madison, Alabama in 1830 with his wife and a daughter, between age 15 and 20 (probably their last, Mary Catherine.) [2]

Mary "Polly" born abt 1810 in Madison County, Alabama; died in Banner, Calhoun County, Mississippi abt 1888. 6. Nelson Skelton (1810-1886) 7. Charity (Skelton) Bryant (born about 1807 in Elbert County, Georg; died in Jefferson County, Alabama September 7, 1905. Married Marshall Bryant, in Madison County, Alabama June 28, 1822, Marshall died on May 21, 1919 in Mobile County, Alabama.

Lewis Solomon Skelton died 5 May 1848 (aged 75) in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, USA and was buried in Big Creek Cemetery, Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, USA.[3]
