Skelton, age 85, a longtime resident of Upper Arlington, died Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at the Forum at Knightsbridge. He was born November 18, 1916 in Magnolia, Oh., the son of Charles G. and Anna (Kohler) Skelton. He graduated from The Ohio State University College of Engineering in 1940 and was a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. He served as a Captain in the Army Air Corps and was stationed in Norwich, England during World War II. He owned and operated the L.R. Skelton & Co. highway construction firm. He was a longtime member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and a charter member of St. Mark's Endowment Fund. He was also a former trustee of the Operating Engineers Pension Fund. Lewis is survived by his wife of 60 years, Theresa "Peggy" Butts Skelton; sons, Lewis Rice (Trudy) Skelton of Strongsville, OH, Michael K. (Shary) Skelton of Hilliard, OH, and John C. (Janice) Skelton of Worthington, OH; grandchildren, Jody (Scott) Hanes, Devon, Lauren, Michael, Jr., Jennifer, David, Mindy, and Karen Skelton; brother, James (Ramona) Skelton of Canton, OH; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2002 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 2151 Dorset Rd., Upper Arlington. The Rev. Dr. Vicki L. Smith will officiate. A reception will follow the service. A private interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Endowment Fund of St. Mark's Episcopal Church or Hospice at Riverside/Grant, 3535 Olentangy River Rd., Columbus, OH 43214 in his memory.
