Biography

Joshua C. Skidmore. son of Richard & Mary (Corwin) Skidmore was born 25 August 1803. He married Elizabeth Post on 1 Dec 1831. She was born 11 Nov 1809. They are shown as having lived in Brooklyn New York and in Great Neck on Long Island, New York. Three children are listed :

  1. 1. William James Skidmore was born in Brooklyn 9 Apr 1933. He married Louise Udall who was born in New York City. They lived in Great Neck and had one daughter, Louise Udall Skidmore, who married Roswell Eldridge.
  2. 2. Richard Henry Skidmore was born 22 Nov 1835. He lived at Great Neck and later New York City and remained unmarried.
  3. 3. Abram Post SKidmore was born 9 April 1838 and died in 1880 Jamaica New York 21 Jul 1880. [1]

JOSHUA CORWIN SKIDMORE was born 25 August 1803, the son of Richard & Mary (Corwin) Skidmore, and died before 5 September 1866 at Great Neck, Long Island. He married Elizabeth, a daughter of Abraham and Sarah (Howell) Post of Quogue in West Hampton, Long Island, on 1 December 1831; she was born 11 November 1809 at Brooklyn and died 27 June 1890 at Riverhead. Their children are listed as:

  1. William James, born 9 April 1833 at Brooklyn.
  2. Richard Henry, born 22 November 1835. A bachelor, he lived in New York City and Center Moriches, Long Island, where he died 22 February 1881.
  3. Abram Post, born 9 April 1838. "A bachelor, he lived North Hempstead, but commuted to his business in New York City. He perished in the Seawanhaka ferry disaster. It caught fire about 4:30 on the afternoon of 28 June 1880 on a run from Peck Slip in Manhattan to Glen Cove, Long Island, was beached, and burned near Randall Island with a great loss of life. His distant cousin James Henderson Skidmore, Junior (see elsewhere) also died in the same disaster. "[2]
