Biography

Henry Slade, Jr., was the son of Henry Slade, Sr., and Hannah Loveridge (1). He was born about 1668-1670; about 1669 in Albany, Albany County, New York or in Currituck, Albermarle County, North Carolina. The reason this is the date and place I give for his birth is based on these reasons: First of all, on May 1, 1668 Henry Slade, Sr. went with William Loveridge to Albermarle County, North Carolina. At that time, they were not settled down yet. They had went to look for land. Because they were together, it seems as though Henry Slade was either recently married to William's daughter Hannah, or he was engaged to be married to her. Second of all, William Loveridge was living in Albany already in 1671, because he was known as a "Master Hatter" amongst the community that he lived in. Hannah, his daughter, lived there as well until she married Henry Slade. Based on this information, many believe that Henry married Hannah in New York in 1668. Next, on October 3, 1671 Henry Slade, Sr., was awarded land for bringing people into the Virginia Colony. Two of the people that he transported was Henry Slade, (Jr.), and Mary Slade. Because of these records and circumstances, it is believed that Henry Slade, Jr. was born before October 3, 1671, but not before 1668. Also, it seems that he was born before they settled down in North Carolina or Virginia, but during the time his parents were buying land and traveling around. For these reasons, he could have actually been born in any of these locations. For these reasons, it is estimated that he was born about 1669 while his mother was in Albany with her mother and siblings, during the time his father was transporting people to North Carolina and Virginia, and buying land to settle down on. It is important to remember also that after Henry Slade, Sr. bought land, he would have needed time to clear it and to build a house. During that time, the safest place for Hannah would have been with her mother in Albany where they already had a home.

By June 17, 1679 Henry Slade, Jr. was settled down with his parents and siblings in Currituck, Albermarle County, North Carolina.

They settled down in Sladesville, Hyde County, North Carolina. They lived on a creek that flowed from the Pungo River. They called the creek, "Slade's Creek", and the area became known as Sladesville, Hyde County, North Carolina.

On March 16, 1693 6 people were transported into Norfolk County, Virginia by Henry Slade. Henry Slade, Sr. transported people for an occupation; however, it is believed that this circumstance was actually Henry Slade, Jr. However, it may have been Henry Slade, Sr., due to the fact that he transported people into the colonies for the British Crown. Those transported were John, Joseph, Benjamin, Samuel, Hannah, and William Slade, all of which were his siblings.

On April 29, 1693 Henry was awarded 330 acres on the northeastern side of the Northwest River beginning and continued to the northeast side of the marshes of the Northwest River.

In about 1695 Henry Slade, Jr. married Abigail Jesper in Sladesville, Hyde County, North Carolina, USA.

They continued to live there and raise their children.

They attended the Church of England Hyde Parish in Hyde County, North Carolina.

On January 5, 1718 Henry Jr., wrote his Will in Hyde County, North Carolina.

When Henry Slade, Sr. wrote his Will on March 15, 1721, he left his grandchildren William and Henry, his son Henry Slade Jr.'s children, "their mother's plantation at the discretion of my Executors".
