SLADE Robert Effects under £25,000. 30 January. The Will of Robert Slade late of Pool in the County of Dorset Merchant deceased who died 3 January 1864 at Longfleet in the Borough of Pool in the said County was proved at Blandford by the oaths of Thomas Slade of the Borough aforesaid Merchant and David Slade of the Borough aforesaid Merchant the Sons the Executors.

His obituary read:

DEATH OF ROBERT SLADE, Esq., J.P. In our obituary column of this day we record the demise of Robert Slade, Esq., merchant, of this town, and one of the Justices of the Peace of the Borough of Poole. which took place on Sunday night last. Mr. Slade it appears has for some time suffered from indigestion, and on the evening on which his death took place, he complained of feeling somewhat unwell and expired quite suddenly about nine o'clock. Mr. Slade had not for many years attended the Magistrates' meetings, and but very seldom appeared in connection with the public affairs of the Borough; he, nevertheless, took more than a usual amount of interest in the municipal and parliamentary politics, exerting a powerful influence in local matters, and lies been for many years considered the head of the Conservative party of the borough. Nor was his influence felt in the town of Poole alone. His extensive establishments in Twillingate and Fogo, in Newfoundland, gave him great influence in those parts, and his name was perhaps as familiar in every fishing port of that colony as in this town where he has resided for so many years. Several times within the last ten years be has visited his transatlantic possessions; his last visit being in 1862. We believe he contemplated taking a voyage in that direction this year. As a merchant, he was well known in all the Spanish, Portuguese and Italian fish markets; his aptitude for business was of a solid and practical character, so much so that he was the constant referee of those who amongst his numerous acquaintances contemplated any particular charge in their private and business matters. The large capital involved in the extensive home and colonial trade of the deceased cannot but be affected to some important extent tor his death. That Mr. Slade possessed a naturally kind, benevolent and indulgent disposition though ever-shrinking with the utmost sensitiveness from any display of these qualities—his many old, unchanged servants and the large circle of persons who from his position camo into less frequent contact with him, all bear uniform witness. By these his loss as a substantial friend and wise counsellor will be deeply deplored. There were those of course who differed from his views on matters of public import, but we have no stronger persuasion than that all who did so sincerely respect his memory, give his past actions the credit of springing from the strictest and most honorable, conscientious motives, deeply regret his sudden and unexpected removal from our midst, and offer their sympathetic condolences to his bereaved family. We understand the funeral will take place on Saturday next, and the deceased will be interred at Lytchett. where other members of the family are buried. Poole & Dorset Herald, 7 Jan 1864 [3]

From the christening record, he should be the son of David Slade? https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Slade-2858
