1817 William Smith Slater was born in 1817. He was the son of John Slater and Ruth Bucklin.

1843 William Smith Slater's father John Slater passed away on 27 May 1843. On his death, John Slater passed his interest in the mills at Hopeville and Jewett City, Connecticut and at Slatersville, Rhode Island to his two sons, William Smith Slater and John Fox Slater and they formed a partnership under the name of J & W Slater adjusting their affairs so as to be equal partners.

1843 daughter Harriet Whipple Slater born 2 Oct 1843.

1846 daughter Ellen Whipple Slater born Dec 1846.

1847 son William Bowen Slater born 4 Dec 1847.

1849 daughter Elizabeth Ives Slater born 13 May 1849.

1851 daughter Helen Morris Slater born 8 May 1851.

1852 son John Whipple Slater born 22 Nov 1852.

1853 The lease of Slatersville to A D and M W Lockwood had expired so William S Slater took the management of the Slatersville Mill and John F Slater that of the Jewett City Mill.

1855 John's wife Harriet Morris (Whipple) Slater passed away.

1873 The two brothers partnership continued until 1 Jan 1873 when it was dissolved with each taking control of the mill that they had been the manager.

1882 William Smith Slater passed away in 1882.
