Biography

Jay Slater, a farmer, was born on February 25, 1795, in Massachusetts. He was married on March 12, 1826, in Sangamon County, to Lucretia Carman, who was born in 1806, in New York.

Jay Slater was a conductor on the underground railroad and his home, a small neat brick house that still stands just a short distance from Farmington, was most likely an active station on the underground railroad. [1]

Research Notes

This person has been removed as son of Samuel Slater (1768-1835) and Hannah (Wilkinson) Slater (1774-1812). At Hannah's death in 1812 it was recorded that she had six sons living and four other children who had died, all of whom are accounted for.[2] All of her children were born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island; there is no record of an additional son born in Massachusetts.
