Biography

Maria was born in 1836 of John Slater and Elizabeth Rushton and was baptised on 31 Jan 1836 at the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Derby, Derbyshire, England. ^[1]

In the 1841 Census, Maria was living with her family in Derby, Derbyshire, England. ^[2]

In the 1851 Census, she was the last child at age 15, living at home with her parents. ^[3]

Maria emigrated to London, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada at some point. This is the same location where her brother Samuel Slater lived.

Maria married Thomas Bennett about 1857 and lived in London, Middlesex first then moved to North Dorchester, Middlesex county, Ontario, Canada for the rest of her life. No marriage document has been found.

Maria was living with her family in North Dorchester, Middlesex, Ontario during the 1881 Census. ^[5]

Their son Thomas Wesley ^[6] married his first cousin, the daughter of Maria's brother Samuel, Sarah Elizabeth, in London, Ontario, Canada in 1894. ^[7]

Maria's husband, Thomas, died in Dec 1901 of a strangulated hernia.^[8]

Maria, a widow, passed away on 23 Apr 1914 in North Dorchester, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada. ^[9]
