Edmund Slaton/Slayden, son of John Slayden and Susannah Hodges, was born 13 Feb 1777. His middle name might be Hodges, but that claim has not been validated.
From the referenced book by Arthur Jackson Slaton, page 35: "There seems to be little doubt that Edmund was first in Nelson County, Kentucky before moving to Hopkins County."[1] His brothers, John and Arthur were recorded 30 August 1800 in the Tax List for Nelson County, Kentucky.[2] Note, Hopkins County was created 9 December 1806 from Henderson County.
He was married 17 October 1803 in Nelson County, Kentucky to Nancy Allen, daughter of James Allen.[3]
In the 1810 U.S. Census, Edmund Slaton was recorded living in Madisonville, Hopkins, Kentucky with wife Nancy, three sons and one daughter. His older brother John was recorded on the same page. [4] In the 1820 U.S. Census, he was recorded living in Hopkins County, Kentucky as Edmond Slayden, head of an eleven person household, which included Nancy, fives sons and four daughters.[5]
From the referenced book, page 20: "The 200 acre homestead of Edmund and Nancy Slaton is located on the old Princeton Road out of Madisonville, Kentucky. At one time, it was known as "the old Fagan place" (a later owner). It adjoins and was a portion of land owned as late as 1912 by J. Lee O'Bryan."[1]
Edmund died on 20 October 1841 in Madisonville, Hopkins, Kentucky and is buried at Browder's Church Cemetery, Hopkins County, Kentucky.[6] Grave headstone was once visible and inscribed E. Slaton, but has since weathered to the point of being unreadable during descendant John Marion Slaton's lifetime. [7]
