Biography

There are contradictory records regarding this man, his age, and the number and names of his children. His childhood census record him as born 1885-86, but in his adulthood, reported as 1880 and 1898, as seen below.

Worley apparently applied for a license to marry Ora Belle Kemble or Kimbral, 31 March 1912 [citation needed] but a solemnization is not found in South Carolina or Banks or Hart counties, Georgia records (so far). This date is according to a secondary source, The Hart of Georgia. [1] But Ora Bell Slaton is found in 1920 census with a son Tyrus. [2]

His draft registration is in Greenville, South Carolina, giving birth date of September 21, 1880 [agrees with 1940 census, but not with 1930], occupation; painter for the Sullivan? Gallivan? Building Co., in Judson Mill [Greenville SC], tall, slender build, blue eyes, light brown hair and acknowledges Mrs. Orah Bell Slaton as his wife as of Sept. 12 1918 [3]

Those within living memory of these events say that either Worley abandoned this mother and son, not verifiable, or they left him, not verifiable. But consider the evidence: Ora is seen with this son through three censuses in Banks County, Georgia, with no father. It is clear that this family was broken.

Worley married Ella Cleo Howell, 1 January 1921, in Hart County, Georgia, [citation needed] according to a secondary source, The Hart of Georgia. [1] Children in evidence are: Vera, Ralph Richey, Alfred Frank, Mary Elizabeth or Edith (unclear), Clark Howell, and Vivian Alice Slaton (not in census?).

There are considerable differences from names in census and names reported by a claimed sibling in secondary sources.

Worley died in March 1965 [4] and is buried in Iva Cemetery, Anderson, South Carolina, as is wife Cleo and some of his issue. [5]
