Biography

Wade was born about 1844. He is the son of Gibson Slaton and Mary Rooks.

Research Notes

He might have married Sarah E. Reynolds, 12 Jan 1865, in Jackson County, Georgia. [citation needed]

Children derived from census and other records: Martha E., Nathaniel Wade, Mary C., Lou E. (female), Sarah M., and Marion Franklin Slaton. The loss of 1890 census might have revealed others, but note that the 1900 census cited below reports six children born and still living for Sarah E. Slaton.

Pension records show he was on wounded furlough close of war. Born in Jackson Co., GA in 1840.

Mr Herman Slaton kindly sent Clinton Slayton an indigent pension application for W H Slaton of Gwinnett co, who is in fact Wade Hampton Slaton b 1840, from Jackson co GA. His census record is shown below. His application says he has been helped by "his children." He was wounded while serving in the 16th GA Inf, (my records show a "W H Slaton" who was a private) and was in hospital in Richmond. His lower leg was mangled and he says he could do no work of any kind. Marion F Slaton is his sole support:

Gwinnett co GA records show a Nathaniel Slaton mar Francis Kilgore 1859, clearly not the Nathaniel above, unless a mistake has been made. This was in a "History" of Gwinnett, so not an original marriage record to cite.

All references in his pension say he was b 1840, Jackson co GA
