Biography

Sarah "Sallie" was born between 1869 and 1875 in Arkansas. She is the daughter of William Slaton and Martha Dowdell.

She appears to have married a Mr. Pollard, based on her father's will and relationships reported in census households. Two children are named as hers in her father's will: Charles "Charlie" and James "Jimmy."

Her married name (by 1908) is recorded as "Forbitt" in her father's will.

Confirmable dates and locations for her marriages is sought, because they are implied in census, but not found clearly in marriage records, see Research Notes.

The reported birth location for Sallie Forbit in census is consistently Arkansas and Sallie lived beyond 1940. [1]

Research Notes

From his will, It appears that W.M. Slaton's daughter Sallie married a Mr. Forbitt after a previous marriage to a Mr. Pollard, and census shows a likely husband Singleton Farbit or Forbit, [2] [3] Their 1910 household lists stepsons (to Farbit): Jimmie Pollard, 10, and Charlie Pollard, 7, [2] clearly the same mentioned in her father's Last Will.

However, Singleton Forbitt's wife Sallie is implied on FamilySearch as having married Henry Todd Pollard as Sallie Blancagniel in Louisville, Kentucky, 1900. [4] This is either:
1) not the same Sallie as the daughter of W.M. Slaton; or
2) daughter Sallie Slaton who had previously married a Blancagniel, a French surname almost exclusively in Louisville, Jefferson, KY in 1900 U.S. census; or
3) daughter Sallie Slaton who gave a false name for this marriage (seems unlikely).

Harry T. Pollard is shown with spouse Sallie in 1900 census, she reportedly born 1872 in Kentucky, both parents born Virginia, no children reported. [5] In 1910, Harry T. Pollard is reported as "widowed." [6]

These census profiles (if accurate, a mighty big "if") do not support the idea that the couple in 1900 Kentucky contains the same Sallie who is the daughter of W.M. Slaton and the wife of Singleton Forbett/Farbit in Oklahoma. But if a coincidence, it is a remarkable one, with a Sallie marrying a Pollard, and a later Sallie with a Farbit husband and two Pollards as stepsons to the male head, obviously born to Sallie (Slaton,Pollard) Farbit.

Singleton Forbit, Choctaw

In 1885, Singleton Forbit is enrolled in Neshoba County, Mississippi (Indian Territory) as of the Choctaw tribe.[7]

In 1900, "Singlin" Forbit, born April 1866, is living in the Choctaw Nation of Indian Territory, with wife Cillin, who had borne 5 children, 4 living, and it appears that she had previously been married to a Mr. Thomas. [8] Both are reported born Indian Territory with parents also born there.

There are numerous applications and affadavits by "Singlynn" Forbit in the Indian Nation rolls involving probate [9] and other testimony, mentioning Cillin/Cillen, who was also "Choctaw by blood." [10]
