Biography

Sarah Jane Slatter was born in 1873 in Shipton under Wychwood, Oxfordshire, England. She was the daughter of Solomon Slatter and his wife Emma, born Emma Longshaw. [1] [2]

In the 1881 census Sarah Jane Slatter was living in Kiddington, Oxfordshire, England with her parents Solomon and Emma. [2]

Thomas Monk, bachelor, aged 21, a shepherd, of Eastleach, son of William Monk, workman; and Sarah Jane Slater, spinster, aged 17, of Farmington, daughter of Solomon Slater, shepherd; were married at the parish church of Farmington (near Stow on the Wold) in Gloucestershire on 7 March 1891. The witnesses were called George Monk and Annie Slater. [3]

At the time of the 1891 census, Sarah Monk, a married woman, was living as a visitor at Farmington with Solomon, Emma, and Annie Slater. Her age was given as 17, implying a birth date in 1873 or 1874. Her birthplace was given as Shipton under Wychwood, Oxfordshire. [4]

In 1911 Sarah Monk was living at Eastleach Turville in Gloucestershire with her husband Thomas and 2 of their children. Her age was given as 36, implying a birth date in 1874 or 1875. Her birthplace was given as Shipton under Whichwood, Oxfordshire. It was stated that Thomas and Sarah had been married for 20 complete years and had had 4 children together, all of whom were still living. [5] (Her parents were living next door.)
